Re: the elusive Kato
thanks for the reply ron. i did email jill and asked her opinion; she said "nope" on this one, and said the kato looks like a girlscout at first glance, but actually has an opaque turquoise color (turquoise like the stone).
she did say she hadn't seen one like mine before - ron, al posted a picture of your kato on lou's board, and it seems to look more like mine. is it similar in hand?
speaking of hands, i forgot to apologize for the skin - sorry!!

Re: the elusive Kato
Chris, thanks for the information. I still say yours is and they are very, very hard to find whether like yours and mine or like the one Jerry A. showed us in Columbus years ago. As I recall his too had "less than opaque" ribbons of a greenish teal color with strands of oxblood.
In all my years of MK looking, only a couple of Katos or wannabe Katos have surfaced. I would assume Jill's are from her digs which might suggest that they were unacceptable variations in colors wanted at the time for the various runs and more than likely a mix of leftover blue, black and green from their BB, GS and CS runs. Not arguing with Jill here but I think there is room for some variation for a rare type of MK marble, Kato, for inclusion...like yours and mine.
It is quite amazing how many different color variations we see in MKs and especially their Bumblebees which were obviously MKs color on color favorites. BBs with browns are great finds! Their less than uncommon use of semi-transparent colored glass on an opaque colored glass on an opaque white-based glass is awesome and this trait alone does not or maybe should not slam or negate an ID in my opinion.
It would be a fun exercise to list the MK color on color types by order of production, most to least...I'd say it went like this, maybe:
Bumblebees
Cubscouts
Girl Scouts
Cookies and Cream (possibly not a color on color type but real close when the mint color is there)
Ruby Bee
Spiderman
Watermelon
Hercules (seem to be rarer than SM and WM)
Green Hornet (with Kato being an "error" of sorts or an inintended surprise...hence the dumping)
Kato
I may have forgotten one or more. So feel free to disagree or add to the list if you want to play.
Chris, here are a few pictures of the two or three maybe-Katos Ive found over the years. I think they are all hybrids of a sort anyway and to find a mixture of other color or colors on them is understandable and should make them even more rare or desireable like a Spidermelon, CSGS and such.
