On occasion I have been asked to take hits (impacts) off marbles, especially from contemporary marbles. People haul them around from show to show inside their cars and they bump into each other or they get impacts from some other source. What people need to understand is that a very small surface impact doesn't mean that it's small under the top or surface glass. The size of an impact can't be determined until the top or surface glass is removed as the hit "cones" out under the top or surface glass and in most cases is invisible. They send the marble to me and request that I don't remove very much glass, but that they want the marble clean. What really bothers me is getting or hearing about complaint's from the owner saying that I made his/her marble small. I didn't make his/her marble small, removing the impact did, as he/she requested. Sometimes it is surprising how much glass has to be removed to get rid of an impact. ----Leroy----
